North American Club Makers
By Pete Georgiady
f you liked the Compendium
of British Club Makers you will love North American Club Makers. This book is
dedicated to the earlier club making pioneers in North America. North American Club
Makers attempts to survey one under explored facet of golf, its club makers and club
professionals in America, from the birth of modern golf in the Western Hemisphere to the
sunset of the age of hickory. Much of the earliest history has been lost or
obscured. The first professionals, like Willie Anderson, who Willie Smith called
"the King" of their decade of golf, are little more than names in legend.
Ninety-nine percent of American golf enthusiasts do not know that he was our first
three-time champion. What gives this book purpose is that it looks behind the names
and examines how they, along with Spalding, MacGregor, Wilson and other companies,
developed the golf equipment industry.

Views
and Reviews: Golf Clubs in the Trade Press
by Pete Georgiady
Views and
Reviews is the newest book from Pete and is out of the ordinary compared to other
books on antique golf clubs. The title refers to the Views, the illustration of clubs, and
Reviews which describe them to readers of golf magazines between 1891 and 1928, and to
collectors now. Generations ago, reviews in magazines were much more important than today
since there were no slick, full color magazines or television adverts to bring equipment
messages to golfers. There are 80 Views and Reviews of some of the revolutionary and not
so revolutionary clubs of the past. A great unique golf book that is great as a gift to
the golfing enthusiast.
Price:
Trade edition (paperback) $25. Deluxe Collectors' limited edition (hardback, signed
and numbered) $55. On International orders add $5.00/book. Order Now |
